Upgrading your Ventura to Software Version V2.0.13a

WARNING: You must have the latest Ventura HUD EPROM(s) (labeled VHUD 2.1 10-3-99) for this software to operate. These are available direct from Celco Limited.

Follow the instructions on-screen to download the Ventura V2.0.13a software file to a PC running Microsoft Windows 3.1, 3.11 or Microsoft Windows 95 or 98.

  1. Locate the file on your computer using Windows Explorer or File Manager.
  2. Run the file by double clicking the V2_0_13a.exe icon or file name or by typing a path to the file using the "run" command from the Start menu. This will create the directory structure C:\Celco\Ventura\V2_0_13a\ and the new Ventura software file, V_BOOT.bin.
  3. Copy V_BOOT.bin to a clean, DOS formatted floppy disk.
  4. Ensure that the console is powered OFF, the floppy disk drive is connected (external versions only) and a monitor is attached to the HUD monitor output.
  5. Insert the floppy disk in the console's floppy disk drive (Ventura must still be powered down (OFF)).
  6. Switch the console on and wait until the HUD screen display normalises.
  7. Press the following sequence of soft function buttons below the right-hand LCD display: [I/O], [DISC], [FIRMWARE], [1], [2], [3].
  8. Wait while the firmware file is copied from the disk into temporary storage in the console. While this process is taking place various information will appear in the right hand LCD of the Ventura confirming that the upgrade operation is executing:
First, the message "B2" will appear followed by "B3" alternating with "B4" in the bottom left hand corner.
Next, the HUD (monitor) will show "Reading Boot File" with a figure indicating progress from 0% to 100%.
  9. Wait while the console updates its firmware from temporary storage. At this stage the right-hand LCD will display "D7" in the bottom left hand corner. DO NOT SWITCH THE POWER OFF DURING THIS CRITICAL PHASE, OR THE CONSOLE'S FIRMWARE WILL BE CORRUPTED.
  10. After the process is complete the console will automatically re-boot (start). Wait until the right hand LCD displays "V2.0.13a".
If you have just upgraded from any version 2 (for example V2.0.1 or V2.0.7a V2.anything), your console is now ready to use: do not follow step 11-14.
If you have just upgraded from any version 1 (for example V1.5a or V1.anything), your HUD EPROM needs to be changed: follow steps 11-14.
  11. Turn the console over onto a soft surface (e.g. inside the flightcase, or on several layers of bubble-wrap). Alternatively support the console ends to ensure that no pressure is applied to the console faders and rotary wheels. Remove the screws to the base tray.
  12. Lift the base tray at the front edge of the console, taking care not to pull the ribbon cable that connects the HUD circuit board on the base tray with the main circuit boards.
  13. Replace the HUD EPROM(s) with new one(s) marked "VHUD 2.1 10-3-99". Make sure the notch on the end of the EPROM is facing away from the edge of the HUD board.
  14. Re-attach the base tray, ensuring all cables are secure. Switch on the console, your
Ventura is now ready for use.

  10. After the process is complete the console will automatically re-boot (start) and the console is ready for use.

Updating the HUD EPROM(s) (Should not be necessary if updating from V2.0.1 or higher)
New HUD EPROM(s) marked "VHUD 2.1 10-3-99" should have been installed when upgrading the Ventura software to V2.0.1. If for some reason this was not performed new EPROM(s) must be obtained direct from Celco Limited.

Before installing the EPROM(s) follow steps (1) to (10) above.

  1. When the right hand LCD displays "V3.1", switch the console off.
  2. Turn the console over onto a soft surface (e.g. inside the flightcase, or on several layers of bubble-wrap). Alternatively support the console ends to ensure that no pressure is applied to the console faders and rotary wheels. Remove the screws to the base tray.
